Yea It's true say goodbye to the sexy "STAINLESS STEEL" cup that has sat in customers' home kitchens for more than a week because they were so durable. Why are we getting rid of our notorious cups?
Two Reasons:
1. See that shiny coating on them ? Since we first opened we've been trying to recycle them. It seems the recycling plant has a harder time doing that with these that have that shiny coating as opposed to "Plain Paper"

2. Um they're more *ahem more expensive than "Plain Paper"

t's ok though we're saving the planet AND our bank account thanks to our hero "Plainy" the plain paper cups !
So "Plainy" don't feel so intimidated and inferior ! U'll get over ur "new guy" blues soon !

Good news for java junkies: You don't have to skip your caffeine fix to get in a good workout - even in the hot summer months when coffee's widely believed to promote dehydration.
What's more, a caffeinated beverage may actually help you exercise longer.
"For years, people have believed that consuming caffeine would dehydrate the body or result in an electrolyte imbalance or that it might affect body temperature and have a negative impact on heat tolerance during exercise," says Lawrence Armstrong, a professor of exercise physiology at the Human Performance Laboratory at the University of Connecticut in Storrs.
"Our research indicates that none of these concerns is valid," he says.
Fitness experts and dietitians have long advised that exercisers drink up before and during physical activity - but avoid caffeine.
Turns out, though, there's no convincing evidence to support this recommendation, says Armstrong, who published an article on the subject in the July issue of Exercise and Sport Sciences Reviews, a journal of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).
Armstrong and his colleagues reviewed more than a dozen studies and concluded that moderate caffeine consumption - up to about 500 milligrams a day - did not adversely impact exercise. A typical 8-ounce cup of coffee contains 150 milligrams of caffeine while a 12-ounce regular soda has 30 to 50 milligrams.
While caffeine is a mild diuretic - meaning it briefly increases urine production - moderate amounts are not enough to interfere with a workout, Armstrong says. "It doesn't mean that one is dehydrated," he explains. "Dehydration is about the balance of fluid intake and fluid loss."
Little is known about the exercise impact of consuming more than 500 milligrams of caffeine.
The new study is the latest good news about caffeine and exercise. A recent study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found that a combo of the two helped fight skin cancer in mice.
Fatigue fighter?Previous studies also suggest that a java jolt may even boost performance during activities lasting longer than 30 minutes by enabling exercisers to work out longer. In fact, caffeine was once outlawed at the Olympics because of its performance-enhancing effects.
It's not exactly clear why caffeine helps, but Armstrong and others believe the same mental pick-me-up that helps you get your day started or make it through a boring afternoon at work also may help exercisers fight fatigue and thus go longer. Another theory is that caffeine helps the body turn fat into fuel for longer workouts.
Tara Gidus, a sports dietitian in Orlando, Fla., agrees that caffeine doesn't live up to its reputation as a workout wrecker, at least when it's consumed in moderation.
And she notes that exercisers tend to build up a tolerance to caffeine's effects. "An athlete who is used to consuming caffeine regularly may not experience the same diuretic effect as an athlete who doesn't consume caffeine often," she says.
Larry Kenney, a professor of physiology at Penn State University in University Park and a spokesperson for the ACSM, emphasizes that all exercisers - caffeine addicts or not - need to make sure they stay properly hydrated by replacing lost fluids, especially when it's sizzling outside. How much to drink varies from one person to another.
"Athletes should customize their fluid intake based on their individual sweating rate," Kenney says.
To find out how much you need to drink, weigh yourself before and after exercise a few times, Kenney advises. This will tell you how much water you're losing so you can determine how much fluid you need to compensate for the loss. For every kilogram (2.2 pounds) you lose through sweating, you'll need to drink 1 liter (33.8 ounces) to make up for it.
If you're engaging in endurance races or other activities that last an hour or more, consider a sports drink with sodium that replaces lost electrolytes and provides carbohydrates for fuel, he says.
And after your workout, don't feel guilty about hitting the local coffee bar and indulging in your favorite drink - so long as it's not loaded with sugar and topped with whipped cream.

The 1st event(11a-1pm) of the day is the one I most excited about. It's a mentoring session for children (especially boys) Where boys can forget how they're supposed to act and just be themselves and express their thoughts , dreams and hearts! This is lead by a wonderful woman by the name of Jennifer who was touched to start this program and Breukelen Mojo plans to help in any way possible!

the 2nd event(5.-7p) is affiliated with Meetup.com. Writers will meet here and talk about all things prose and poetry ! Sounds like a nice laid back get together !

The post below was a rant. Boy ! It felt good to get that off my chest ! Now you see even more that we are not a franchise, not a huge corporation , not a chain. We're just two people trying to make our dreams come true.

Onto the news ! Our Open Mic was a small success ! Small because it was a small turnout. But the people that performed were REALLY good . The coolest part was when two 12 yr old girls got so comfortable with the atmosphere that they hopped on stage and did accapellas ! They were really good ! I hope Breukelen Mojo helped them overcome whatever stage fright they might've had ! We did have one guy that FLAKED out when he saw the small audience as well. I guess we werent good enough for whatever his name is? I guess he doesnt understand that you have to start somewhere ...to get somewhere and all your audiences aren't going to be huge, even if you're popular ! That's the nature of the business. But I'll B. Nice, because I've digressed . ;-)

Thanks again to those who came out ! And to the wimps that sat in the parking lot and saw it wasn't full enough for them and left ... Sup Wit Dat!?

Cell Phone Usage Rudage ?

So I have a super-friendly customer who has come in quite a few times and conducts business in our place. He sets up his laptop and cell phone and orders a small coffee.

Some of the people that have come in look at him in an awkward way as if he's being extremely rude.

I myself don't even realize it because Im just happy he feels comfortable enough here to consider this place an almost every day stop. He speaks at a pretty high volume but it just doesnt strike me as rude yet. Hey he's a pretty cool guy !

I wonder if when business takes off , and there's tons of customer in here reading , sipping , and/or conversing, will I consider it rude then? If so , how do I remedy this without losing a customer and offending someone?

The place looked great, the popcorn smelled REAL good and it only took us an hour and a half to get the projection screen right !

We only had one family come in, but we were up against alot of excitement in our neighborhood and the ones around us. There were bigtime shows and concerts, Grand Opening of restaurants and it was a fair weather saturday night (with the exception of sporadic lightning).

But with one family coming in we still had a great time and we still considered it a success because they had a good time !

Their popcorn was free because they were the only ones who turned up but the rest of y'all hafta fork over a whopping 50 cents ! That's right I said it ! lol

Labyrinth is a 1986 fantasy film directed by Jim Henson, produced by George Lucas, and designed through the art of Brian Froud. Henson collaborated on the screenwriting with children's author Dennis Lee and Monty Python alumnus Terry Jones. The human leads are David Bowie as Jareth the Goblin King, and a teenage Jennifer Connelly as Sarah Williams. The plot revolves around Sarah's quest to rescue her little brother from the Goblin King while trapped in a world that is an enormous fantasy maze. Most of the other significant roles are played by puppets or by a combination of puppetry and human performance. It was shot on location in New York and at Elstree Studios in the UK. It was the last feature film directed by Henson before his death in 1990.

We're Sooooooo Confused by what our hours should be !

Some of the reasons being .. People just wont come in for hours on end and then they hit us up at like 9:30p excited to be there ! lol

I think if they thought of us as more of a evening spot (when social coffee drinking should take place )that would be perfect! Then the two workers/owners could sleep a bit !

But I also notice due to our exterior renovations and lack of sign, people don't even know we're open :-(

Hello World !

We are almost there ! We FINALLY got the building permit (took 2 1/2 days) and the foodservice's stamp of approval (thanks Andy and Joe!)

Ok I dont care who's reading this Im gonna say it . The city of Atlanta's Bureau of Building a bunch of JERKS ! and believe me I could've said worse. They're a bunch of mean , sloppy , gluttonous (not sure of that's a word but u know what I mean) The office is made up of a bunch of bitter middle aged women that snack on cake and cheez doodles while handling ur thousand-dollar worth floor plans. They dont look at u but on the off chance they so , they raise their eyebrows and roll their eyes. They're a couple men there too but they look like they've never seen the sun, played any out door activites , or even gotten out their office chairs.

Why are they so mean ? Is it because bright bushy-tailed aspiring business owners and happy successgul architects come in there on a daily with a smile on their faces ready to take on the world ? Arethey mad because they're stuck in an office with manila-folder and tan colored walls and furniture that looks like it's been there since the 50s and NO WINDOWS ?
I dunno . But they SUCK ! I hope I NEVER have to go thru them for anything again . I even heard them talking about pushing people's projects back 'til next year because she didnt like the person's attitude.

They were losing people's plans and their system was so dinosaur that none of it made sense.

Then I went to the City of Hall East . I swore we would go in that building and never come out. It was a dungeon and nightmarish.

Then the man in that building was extremely rude on top of the fact that the bald short lumpy arond 50-something man tried to come on to me and me feel soooooooooo uncomfortable . He looked older than my father.

Anyways We Made It ! lol Enough rambling ..

Finally Here ..

If anyone has actively followed our story (especially the entries I've previously posted and then later on deleted on MySpace)

You'd know this has been a long time coming. We're finally "here" . We finally have a "here" and "there" to refer to !

The location is downtown Atlanta . To be more specific Historic Kirkwood. I think it's cute that they refer to their neighborhood as HISTORIC Kirkwood not just Kirkwood that's pretty cool. It shows a sense of pride. This neighborhood so far seems to be full of really cool people that I think it will be an extreme pleasure to serve.

The neighborhood seems to have a plan in action for a big face lift or resurgence. Some may call it a gentrification . But though that is in truth happening all over the country, I dont get that feeling here. There's a big clean up in process and who could possible have any qualms about that? It's a beautiful neighborhood that needs some cosmetic work but it's full of great people and I think that adds to its charm.

So I'm and excited and I cant wait to get in there and start finally sharing my vision with others..
I have a lot of funky ideas I think the area would just love !

So this is it ... Im going to be on hiatus working everything out . But please Stay Tuned.
I may dip in from time to time to complain about something like permits or seminars. But the hardest part is over.

Im sure I'll still have something to complain about tho. :-P

A Holiday Event

So Guess what ?

All's going well with the new property deal so far. So well that they've invited us to be a part of their Business Association and the upcoming event.

It's called Home for The Holidays in Historic Kirkwood. It's a very nice event where there's tons of Christmas-themed activities such as : Tree Lighting , Decorations, Pics with Santa .

All of the businesses in Downtown Kirkwood will be setup to welcome people and offer them free drinks, food, raffles and prizes. We will also be introducing ourselves to everyone and getting them excited about our arrival. We'll have live music, fresh coffee and four different kinds of lattes as well as an assortment of gourmet desserts. We'll pass out flyers and Grand Opening coupons and talk your ears off about our vision for the neighborhood.

Hello All ,

If you read my previous rants on the old blog then you'd know that trying to find a location for "the Mojo" has been extremely difficult. I've never been sure as to why. We're so thoroughly prepared to finance this business and in addition to having the finances in line, we're fully educated and experienced in the industry.

Well we've literally gone through FIVE properties. One, we even signed a lease on and when it came time for the owner to meet with us and sign his part, he withdrew his offer. *snap* just like that ! Everytime he came up with an issue as to why we can't have the property, I had a solution . So he would come up with another one. After awhile, we got the point and said to ourselves, even if this did work out , why would we want to work with someone like him ?

So back to the drawing board we went . We found this place in Kirkwood . A small quaint historic neighborhood about a mile form Edgewood Retail District.

So we were a bit nervous . Everytime we met someone , they let us down and turned out to be crooked businessmen.

So we got ready to meet the next broker guy .

He turned out to be a great guy. He had a wonderful personality and being as he was younger than many of the other brokers , it seems like he knew and understood my vision perfectly.

So hopefully , the company that owns the complex will be just as amiable.

In the meantime, we're going to stay in the ring and keep on dancing.
